Sub-Locations with the Same Name Across Locations

In large deployments, it is common to reuse the same sub-location names at multiple physical locations. For example, a “Guest” sub-location at every branch or office, each with a different internal IP range.

Axis Atmos supports this model, were multiple sub-locations can share the same name across different locations. These sub-locations are then treated as a logical group when you use them in policies.

This allows you to:

  • Standardize naming conventions such as "Corporate", "Guest", and so on, across hundreds or thousands of locations.
  • Apply policies consistently to all sites that use the same sub-location name, without needing to maintain a separate policy entry per location.

Functional Overview

When Axis Atmos groups sub-locations by name, at policy level, the sub-location name appears once, even if that name exists under many locations.

When you select that name in a policy rule, the rule is applied to all sub-locations with that name for your tenant.

This grouping ensures that:

  • You only have to select a sub-location name once in a policy for it to apply everywhere that name is used.
  • Adding a new sub-location with an existing name automatically keeps policy enforcement consistent for that group.
