About Atmos Local Edge
Atmos Local Edge is one of the connector's services, which brokers ZTNA connections to on-premise applications.
The Atmos Local Edge provides the same service as Atmos PoPs, and enables the Atmos Agents to connect to on-premise applications directly through the Atmos Connector, without being routed through the Atmos PoPs.
The Atmos Local Edge is as secure as the Atmos PoPs, but does not offer the same level of visibility.
Regular ZTNA Architecture
Traffic is routed from the Atmos Agent to the on-premise application through the Atmos PoPs.
Local Edge Architecture
Using the Local Edge, traffic is routed directly from the Atmos Agent to the on-premise application through the Atmos Connector.
Common Use-Cases for Atmos Local Edge
- Traffic stays on network - no need to hairpin to public PoPs.
- Providing a better user experience by reducing latency for on-premises traffic.
- Providing support for thick-client based applications running on-premises or in private clouds (including AS400 apps, etc.) - no site-to-site VPN required.
- Comply with regulations that mandate use of on-premises security software (I.e. due to natural disasters, or unstable Internet connectivity).
